Cedar Park Church was founded in 1970 under the sponsorship of Seattle’s Westminster Assembly and Pastor George Johnson. For six years, the church met at Helen Keller Elementary School, before buying 5 acres and building their first Sanctuary in Juanita. By 1981 the church had grown to about 150 people.
Joseph Fuiten was elected Pastor in 1981. Two years later, the church purchased 11 acres on 405 freeway. In 1986, the original facilities were constructed with sanctuary seating for 1200 and school space for 400. Two large trusts were received in 1994. The Charitable Lead Trust involved eight acres of land. The Annuity Trust also involved an eight acre parcel adjacent to the existing church. These properties have allowed the addition of the portables and a multi-use sports field. The church has also purchased thirteen acres to the north. With the addition of that purchase, the campus now totals 46 acres of prime real estate at the Bothell campus.
Cedar Park Christian School, was founded in 1982 with eight preschool students. The school grew consistently, adding preschool and childcare, elementary, middle school, and high school grades, with the first graduating class in 1997.
Over the years, Cedar Park Christian Schools have expanded, resulting in a school district with campuses currently in Bellevue, Mill Creek, Lynnwood, and Mountlake Terrace, along with the main campus in Bothell. Our Independent Study Program provides support and resources for homeschool families.
At Cedar Park Christian Schools, we believe that the basis of all teaching is God and His Word. Our desire is that each student would accept Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and to partner with parents to nurture and train each child so that they will grow in godliness of character and action.
The Cathedral Church
In 2000, Cedar Park started moving in the direction of its Cathedral Church model. In that year the first branch church in Kenmore was established and the first additional property beyond the Bothell campus was added. 2000 also saw the completion of the Chapel of the Resurrection mausoleum and the expansion of a full-service funeral home. Cedar Park also began expanding its community ministries to include a full-service auto shop to house the Mechanics’ Ministry and launched the Summer Day Camps that have seen thousands of children come through the program in the past 13 years. In 2001, another twelve-classroom building was completed, allowing CPCS to expand even further.
In 2002, The Chapel at Cedar Park, was established to provide a more traditional and liturgical style of church service. Since the first purchase of offsite land in 2000, Cedar Park has planted, launched, and funded over two dozen churches from Whidbey Island, Bellevue, Everett, Mt. Vernon, Totem Lake, Kenmore, Mulkilteo, Duvall, Lake Stevens, and Woodinville – 9 branch churches and dozens of church plants.
Expanding to the Community
In 2004, Cedar Park purchased property in Mukilteo and converted an existing church building to a state-of-the-art recording studio. Upon closing “Imperative Studios” in 2011, Cedar Park made a large donation to Northwest University’s “Creatio Studios” that helped launch the recording arts and music production programs of that school. Cedar Park also opened the Hidden Treasures Thrift Store in Kenmore, a non-profit secondhand store to serve the needs of that community.
In 2005, the newest building on the Bothell campus was completed: the 24 classroom, 78,000 sq/ft high school building featuring a triple size gym and library with a view of the campus. Since the establishment of Cedar Park Christian Schools in 1982, the school has graduated 17 classes of seniors and has expanded to 5 campuses. It was also in 2005 that Cedar Springs camp was acquired, which now houses day camps, week-long summer camps, and a full retreat center.
2008 saw the launch of Cedar Park’s Stillwater Hill location in Duvall and the opening of the Cedar Park Embryo Adoption Program, which connects families unable to have children to families with frozen embryos in a closed or open adoption setting. The Cedar Park Foster Care ministry, providing foster placement in conjunction with state-licensed services opened in 2010.
