CEDAR PARK CHRISTMAS MUSICAL – I’LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
Written Deborah Craig-Claar and composed by Mark Hayes, I’ll Be Home For Christmas takes you back to a time gone by.
America in 1941 and radio is king. Families would sit around the big radio in the living room and listen to shows like “The Shadow”, “The Lone Ranger”, an “Fibber McGee and Molly”.
Howard West and his family – two grown daughters and a grandson, plus a couple of eccentric tenants in their apartment building – are no different as they settle in for this year’s Thanksgiving dinner. But everyone is extra excited as radio station KJOY is gearing up for the “Big Christmas Broadcast of 1941” by playing previews of Christmas favorites by the Seasonaires – in that 40s big band style! – interspersed with their regular programming of news, sports, and commercials.
All of the radio fun comes to life in Howard’s living room each time someone turns on their favorite station!
But the atmosphere of the times is not all merry and bright during this particular holiday season. Howard’s oldest daughter, Norma, has a husband who’s away in the military as much of the world is already at war. And his youngest daughter Angie, who is mostly interested in young love and the latest “crooner” on the radio, may end up, instead, with shattered dreams.
How will this family and their friends cope with the growing anxiety in the world as they try to prepare for Christmas 1941?
