Call to Worship #9
Definition
of worship penned by William Temple, former Archbishop of Canterbury:
Worship is the
quickening of our conscience by God’s holiness;
the nourishment of our minds with his truth;
the purifying of our imagination by his beauty;
the opening of our hearts to his love;
the surrender of our wills to his purpose;
and all of these gathered up in adoration –
the most selfless emotion by which our nature is capable and therefore
the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which is our original sin
and
the source of all actual sin
Most
holy God, help us to
adore you today with all our hearts, and all our minds, and all our
strength. Amen |
