Election of Deacons
Deacons shall be elected at the annual
congregational meeting.
Nomination
- A nominating committee shall be chaired by the Pastor and
comprise the Pastor and two or three deacons who are not eligible for election this term.
- The congregation will be asked to provide nominations.
- The nominating committee will review nominations. Qualified
nominees will be polled regarding their willingness to serve.
- Only candidates that come through this process will be eligible
for election
- The nominating committee will present the names to the
congregation at least one week prior to the congregational meeting.
Election
- Election shall occur by secret ballot
- A deacon will be elected by receiving at least 2/3 of votes cast
- At each vote, one ballot will be distributed and collected.
Those voting will select a candidate for each open position (i.e. if
there are two openings, each ballot cast will identify two
selections).
- When ballots are tallied, those receiving the most votes will be
considered elected as long as they receive the minimum votes
required. The election will be announced; at no time will the
specific distribution of votes be announced.
- Subsequent ballots will be distributed and collected until all
openings are filled. In each case, the subsequent ballot shall have
removed the name of the candidate with the least number of votes.
